Isaiah chapter 25 is a song of praise for God's victory over the enemies of his people. Verse 8 contains one of the most glorious promises in the whole Old Testament: God will destroy death forever and wipe away tears from every face. Death, which seems to have the final word, will be swallowed up in victory. This hope comforted Israel and finds full fulfillment in Christ's resurrection, when death definitively lost its power. The same God who speaks with authority guarantees this promise. Today every pain and every loss can be given to him, who knows each person's tears. Our hope is not in circumstances but in the God who defeats death.
