Isaiah 57:15
“For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”

Explanation

Isaiah chapter 57 denounces the idolatry and pride of Israel but also brings comfort to the humble who trust in God. Verse 15 presents God himself: the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, the Holy One, and who at the same time dwells with the contrite and humble. God's greatness does not make him distant; on the contrary, he draws near to the contrite in spirit. The Lord dwells with the one who recognizes his smallness and depends on him. That closeness is a mystery of grace: the Holy One becomes a companion of the repentant sinner. Today we are invited to draw near to God with a sincere heart, without pride. Humility is the door to the highest companionship that exists.
